Your store's look

Colours and fonts

Your store has one palette, a font for headings and a font for text. Everything on the canvas uses them by role (Paper, Ink, Accent; heading and text) rather than by name, so changing them changes the whole store at once and keeps it readable. Any text can still have a font of its own.

The same design in three themes' colours and fonts. Nothing on it names a colour; it names a role (Paper, Ink, Accent, Field), and the palette fills them in.

Picking a palette

  1. Click Design at the top of the canvas, and open Colours.
  2. Point at a palette to try it on the page. Click to keep it.
  3. Narrow the list with All, Light, Dark or Bold accent.

The colours, by role

Main: Paper, Ink, Accent
The page, the words on it, and the colour of things you can tap.
Supporting: Strong paper, Soft ink, Line, Field
A second background, quieter words, lines, and a bold block of colour for a band or a badge.
Signals
Success, warning and danger, for messages.
On accent, On field
The text colour that sits on the accent and on the field.

Click Edit colours to change any of them. You get your own copy of the palette, so the original stays as it was.

Your store's fonts

Open Fonts in Design. Your store has two default fonts: one for Headings and one for Text. Click Change beside either to pick from every font.

Under Pairs that work well are heading and text fonts that suit each other. Point at one to see your page in it; click to keep it. Choosing a pair sets both defaults.

Texts that use Heading or Text follow the defaults, so changing a default changes all of them at once.

Picking a font

  1. Click Change in Design › Fonts, or Any font… in a text's Style › Type.
  2. Search by name, or narrow the list to Sans, Serif, Display, Handwriting or Mono. Every name is shown in its own font.
  3. Click one to use it. Fonts your store already uses are listed first.

There are about 1,900 fonts to choose from, all free to use on your store. A few are marked fewer accented letters: check they have every letter your words need.

Your own fonts

If your brand has a font of its own, upload it: open the font picker and choose Upload a font.

Font file
A .woff2, .woff, .ttf or .otf file, up to 4 MB. A .woff2 file is the smallest and loads fastest.
Name
What the font is called in your studio. Upload each style of the family under the same name.
Weight and italic
Which style this file is, such as Regular, Bold or Bold italic. Texts then use the right file for their weight.
I have the right to use this font on a website
Fonts are licensed. Most bought fonts need a web licence; check yours before uploading.

Uploaded fonts count towards your storage, alongside your photos. To remove one, open the picker and click the file under its name.

Good to know

  • Any colour picker can choose a role from the palette, or any colour at all. Roles follow the palette; a colour you pick stays put.
  • Starting from a theme brings its palette and fonts with it.
  • Use as many fonts as your design needs. When one page uses a lot of them, Check mentions that each one adds a little load time on phones.
